Browser Wars Are Getting Interesting
There was once a day when Internet Explorer was your only viable choice in browsers (this was not a good thing). Now however, there are dozens to choose from on both Windows and Mac OS X platforms. Firefox has been the leader in providing IE alternatives, with Safari, Opera and Chrome also providing nice alternatives.
Firefox has long had a vibrant add-on catalog. Developers have created extremely useful add-ons like Firebug, Clear Cache and Colorzilla. Now, Apple has gotten in on the game with their Safari browser. Much like their walled-garden App Store approach, you must get their approval to get your add-on to Safari.
Safari has long been one of the faster browsers out there, but Google’s Chrome is probably the fastest. It’s not as full featured as some of the others, but that just makes it leaner and faster. It has grown quite a bit in popularity. I will be curious to see how Chrome develops over the coming years. Do they keep it lean and mean, or do they add features at the cost of speed?
Whichever browser you choose, there are plenty of good ones to choose from. You’re bound to find one that is comfortable to you.
