Conversational Podcasting

I stumbled across a blog today, from someone who understands us. Well, not us, exactly, but “us” in terms of what Daniel and I are so desirous of seeing in the podcasting community: Conversational Podcasting. Thanks, Amy Gahran

It’s a wee bit too early to mention this, but I am starting a podcast dealing with just this topic. The thing that has always attracted me to blogging is the conversational give-and-take, between the blogger and his readers. Podcasting, an obvious choice for someone like me with a production background, at first glance seemed to offer this same promise of conversational dialogue, but as I began podcasting, I started realizing that, no, podcasting was pretty much a one-way street. It felt more like a pulpit than a living room. I’m not sure I completely understand why podcasting is so much more passive an experience when compared to blogging, but I want to explore what interactive, conversational podcasting could be, if given the chance. I want to plumb the depths of techniques to engage an audience, to wake them from passive listening and invite them in to the sweet spot, where the magic of community is taking place. That’s a personal side of what Innertoob is about for me.

So, if you are reading this, and you think you have an opinion about what conversational podcasting is and can be, I invite you to the table. Let’s roll tape and put some real meat on these bones.
